Typha are generally known as "bulrushes", although botanically speaking they are not bulrushes, and should actually be called "reedmace". While most species are large plants, Typha minima is the baby of the family, and thus ideally suited to the average garden pond. It has slender, grass-like, green stems and lovely little round brown pokers in summer. Please note that the plants often push against the sides of their pots due to the way the roots grow; simply snip the pot off with scissors if it is difficult to remove.

If you have a very small pond and even this species is too large, you could consider the for a similar look on a smaller scale.

If designing a planting scheme, we recommend approximately 1 Typha minima plant per square foot of ground or per linear foot of pond edge. Read more here on how to .
